Netherlands Micky van de Ven is a professional footballer specializing as a centre-back, currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands national team.
Micky van de Ven was born on April 19, 2001, in Wormer, Netherlands. He began his football career with WSV ’30 Wormer before joining FC Volendam’s youth system in July 2013. He advanced through the ranks, making his first-team debut for Volendam against Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie. During the 2019–20 season, Van de Ven made 19 appearances. In his subsequent full season, 2020–21, he served as captain and contributed two goals in 26 appearances as Volendam participated in the promotion play-offs, concluding his tenure with a total of 48 senior appearances and two goals for the club.
In August 2021, Van de Ven transferred to VfL Wolfsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga for a fee of £3.15 million. He played in 33 of the team’s Bundesliga matches during the 2022–23 season, scoring one goal in a 2–0 victory against Borussia Dortmund. That season, he was recognized for recording the highest top speed among Bundesliga defenders, reaching 35.89 km/h. His performance at VfL Wolfsburg included 41 appearances across all competitions, one goal, and three assists.
Van de Ven joined Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023, signing a six-year contract for a reported fee of €50 million. He made his debut for the club on August 13, 2023, against Brentford in the Premier League. On October 7, 2023, he scored his first goal for Tottenham in a 1–0 win against Luton Town. He sustained a hamstring injury in November 2023 but returned to play in January 2024. In January 2024, he was recorded as the Premier League’s fastest player, reaching 37.38 km/h. He concluded the 2023-24 season with 29 appearances, 27 starts, and three goals, earning Tottenham’s Player of the Season award. He continued to set speed records, clocking 37.1 km/h in the 2024–25 Premier League season, despite experiencing further injuries. In May 2025, Van de Ven contributed to Tottenham’s 1–0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final, securing his first major career honor and the club’s first trophy in 17 years. In September 2025, he captained Tottenham for the first time in a UEFA Champions League match against FK Bodo/Glimt, scoring one goal.
