Austin Michael Romero, known professionally as Mike Rome, was born on October 8, 1981, in San Diego, California. His early career included significant roles as a game show host for Nickelodeon and as an entertainer at Universal Studios and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. These experiences provided a foundation in live performance and audience engagement, which later proved beneficial in his wrestling career.
Rome signed with WWE in May 2016, quickly becoming a fixture as a ring announcer for the NXT brand. His distinctive voice and stage presence were also featured at significant events like the Cruiserweight Classic. He made his debut on WWE programming on the September 7, 2016, episode of NXT. His career continued to advance, leading to his main roster debut on the January 16, 2017, episode of Raw, where he conducted backstage interviews. By January 2019, Rome became the primary ring announcer for Raw.
A notable achievement in Rome’s career was his brief reign as WWE 24/7 Champion on December 27, 2019, during a live event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His role shifted again during the 2023 WWE Draft, when he was moved to SmackDown as the ring announcer. In May 2024, Rome returned to his role as the NXT ring announcer to be closer to his home in Orlando, Florida, continuing to appear for major WWE events including those in Saudi Arabia.
