Ming-Na Wen has cultivated a diverse acting career, transitioning from early soap opera roles to iconic voice acting and live-action performances in major franchises, consistently delivering compelling portrayals to global audiences. After gaining initial recognition for her groundbreaking role as Lien Hughes on the soap opera As the World Turns from 1988 to 1991, becoming the first Asian actress to hold a contract role on a daytime soap, Ming-Na Wen went on to achieve critical acclaim with her breakthrough performance in the film The Joy Luck Club in 1993. Her early career also included a role as a royal trumpeter in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in 1985. Wen secured a recurring role as Dr.
Jing-Mei ‘Deb’ Chen in NBC’s medical drama ER from 1994 to 1995, returning as a series regular from 1999 to 2004. Further diversifying her live-action portfolio, she played Chun-Li in Street Fighter (1994) and co-starred in the sitcom The Single Guy from 1995 to 1997. Wen significantly expanded her presence in animated projects, most notably as the voice of the title character in Disney’s acclaimed film Mulan (1998), a role for which she earned an Annie Award for Voice Acting, and its sequel Mulan II. Her extensive voice work continued with Aki Ross in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) and Detective Ellen Yin in The Batman animated series from 2004 to 2005.
