Scottish footballing legend, Mo Johnston, is one of the select few players that has won the Scottish Premier Division with both Celtic and Rangers, making him a highly unique figure. The lethal striker also won the MLS Western Conference and MLS Cup later on in his playing days with Kansas City Wizards.
After catching the attention of Watford due to his promising performances at Partick Thistle, Johnston signed for the club and scored 23 league goals, while helping the Hornets to reach the 1984 FA Cup Final. The fantastic frontman then went back to his home nation and joined Celtic, scoring an incredible 72 goals in 128 matches. After a stint at Nantes, Johnston returned to Glasgow with Rangers, becoming the second player to don the shirt of both teams since World War II. Johnston once again excelled in the Scottish top flight, scoring 46 goals in 100 games for Rangers. Later on in his amazing career, he played for Everton, Hearts, Falkirk and MLS side Kansas City Wizards. Johnston also scored 14 goals in 38 appearances for Scotland, including one special goal in the World Cup.
After calling it a day on his glittering playing career, Johnston went on to coach in the MLS. He has been manager and later Director of Soccer at MLS club Toronto FC. As well as playing for both Rangers and Celtic, Johnston has had a major influence on both US and Scottish soccer, showcasing the icon’s international appeal.
