Mo McRae, born on July 4, 1982, in Los Angeles, California, began his journey in the entertainment industry after discovering an interest in drama during high school. He initially pursued basketball but shifted his focus to acting after landing a lead role in a school play. Following high school, McRae quickly secured national television commercials for major corporations such as Visa, Nike, and Reebok. These early opportunities led to appearances in primetime television shows including “NYPD Blue,” “Becker,” and “Boston Public.” His talent continued to be recognized with roles in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “ER,” and “The Shield,” steadily building his acting resume.
A significant turning point in McRae’s acting career came in 2006 when he played Leon Hayes in the hit film “Gridiron Gang,” starring opposite Dwayne Johnson. This role introduced him to a wider audience and contributed to the film’s global success, grossing over $40 million. He further established his on-screen presence with recurring roles as Tyler in the FX series “Sons of Anarchy” from 2012 to 2014, and as Malcolm “Suger” Monroe in “Murder in the First” in 2015. McRae continued to take on diverse acting projects, appearing in films like “Wild” (2014) as Jimmy Carter and “The First Purge” (2018) as 7 & 7. His television work includes roles in “Big Little Lies” (2019) as Michael Perkins, “This Is Us” (2018) as Don Robinson, and “The Flight Attendant” (2022) as Benjamin Berry.
Beyond acting, McRae has developed his career as a producer and director. He produced and starred in “The Fall,” which competed at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
