Ms. Pat overcame prison, drugs and abuse to rise to comedy stardom. The American stand-up comedian, actress and podcast host drew attention for her darkly hilarious, award-nominated book Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat in 2017, and she is the star of a sitcom based on her stand-up comedy routine and life story called The Ms. Pat Show. The well-received show became the No. 1 comedy on BET+, breaking audience engagement and viewing records and was renewed for a second season in 2021. Ms. Pat has also appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and is the host of The Patdown with Ms. Pat podcast.
Born Patricia Williams in Atlanta, Georgia, Ms.Pat had a troubled upbringing with an abusive drunk mother who died young. Ms.Pat and her sister were sexually abused by a neighbourhood man when they were just young girls and the comedian became pregnant by another man when she was just 14. The father of her child also physically abused her and introduced her to selling drugs. After serving time and leaving drug dealing behind her she moved to suburbia where local kids gave her the nickname “Ms.Pat”, which later became her stage name.
Ms.Pat started in comedy after not knowing what else to do after her prison record stopped her getting other work. After a rocky start in stand-up she began to find her way on the Chitlin’ Circuit in Atlanta, and she later moved to Indianapolis where she worked on her comedic skills at the iconic Morty’s comic store.
Now the star of her very own sitcom, Ms. Pat has fought her way to top in the world of comedy, and her star continues to rise.
