Muggsy Bogues, recognized as the shortest player in NBA history at 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m), was drafted 12th overall in the 1987 NBA Draft by the Washington Bullets, marking the start of a distinguished 14-season professional career. His foundational success began at Dunbar High School, where he was a key player on an undefeated basketball team ranked first nationally by USA Today in 1981-82 and 1982-83. Bogues continued to excel at Wake Forest University for four years, leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in steals and assists during his senior year (198687) and earning the prestigious Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award. His remarkable collegiate career was honored with Wake Forest retiring his number and his induction into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

In recognition of his enduring contributions to sports, Muggsy Bogues was announced as an inductee to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2020, further solidifying his legacy as an iconic figure in basketball.
