N’Golo Kante is a French professional footballer known for his exceptional midfield play, transitioning from a lesser-known talent to a multi-award-winning athlete and instrumental figure in numerous championship-winning teams.
The World Cup winning French midfielder has penned a new deal with the Three Stripes to commit his long-term future to the brand.
Unlike many other footballers who usually wear luxury brands like Balenciaga or Louis Vuitton, Kanté attended the event wearing New Balance.
N’Golo Kante was born on March 29, 1991, in Paris, France. He began his football career at the age of eight at JS Suresnes, a local club in the western suburbs of Paris, where he spent a decade. Due to his small stature, he was initially overlooked by larger teams and was even rejected from the Clairefontaine academy. Kante made his senior professional debut in 2012 with Boulogne in Ligue 2, playing a single match. The following year, he played a full season in the third division. In 2013, he moved to Caen on a free transfer, where he played a crucial role in securing their promotion to Ligue 1 in his first season and maintaining their top-flight status in his second. His consistent performances in ball recovery, notably topping European leagues in tackles and interceptions during his time at Caen, began to attract wider attention.
Kante joined Leicester City in 2015 for approximately £5.6 million. He quickly became a key player in their unexpected Premier League title victory in the 2015–16 season, earning widespread praise for his work rate and defensive capabilities. In April 2016, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year. Following his successful season with Leicester, Kante transferred to Chelsea in 2016 for £32 million. He continued his success at Chelsea, winning the Premier League in his first season, making him the first outfield player since Eric Cantona to win consecutive English league titles with different clubs. His individual accolades during this period included the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, and Premier League Player of the Season awards in 2017. He also played a significant role in Chelsea’s FA Cup triumph in 2018.
His career at Chelsea saw him win multiple European and international titles. He was integral to Chelsea’s UEFA Europa League victory in 2019, despite battling an injury. In the 2020–21 season, Kante delivered exceptional performances in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, earning player-of-the-match awards against strong opponents and starring in the final against Manchester City, securing Chelsea’s Champions League title. He also claimed the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea. Internationally, Kante represented France, making his senior debut in 2016. He was a key member of the French squad that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and the UEFA Nations League in 2021. In 2023, he transferred to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League, continuing his illustrious career.
