About

Nicole Camille Escovedo was born in Berkeley, California, on September 21, 1981. She was adopted at the age of nine by Lionel Richie and his then-wife Brenda Harvey, having been under their care since she was two years old. Richie’s early life included attending The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, where she met Paris Hilton. She later graduated from Montclair College Preparatory School in 1999 and studied Arts and Media at the University of Arizona for two years before leaving to return to California. This period laid the groundwork for her eventual entry into entertainment and fashion. Her parents’ public divorce during her childhood, alongside therapy sessions, shaped her early experiences.

Richie gained widespread public recognition in 2003 with the reality television series “The Simple Life,” co-starring with Paris Hilton. The show, which followed the two socialites as they navigated rural life, premiered to 13 million viewers on Fox and ran for five seasons, transitioning to E! Entertainment Television for its later years. Throughout its run, Richie’s personal life attracted significant media attention. Following the conclusion of “The Simple Life” in 2007, Richie transitioned into acting roles, including appearances in “Kids in America” (2005) and guest spots in various television series such as “Eve,” “Six Feet Under,” “American Dreams,” “8 Simple Rules,” and “Chuck.” She also became a judge on “Fashion Star” (2012–2013) and starred in her unscripted comedy series, “Candidly Nicole” (2014–2015), which was based on her Twitter posts.

Building on her television career, Richie expanded into fashion and writing. In 2008, she launched her lifestyle brand, House of Harlow 1960, which initially focused on jewelry but later expanded to include apparel, shoes, eyewear, home fragrances, and accessories. She also released a maternity clothing line with A Pea in the Pod in 2009 and a women’s line called Winter Kate in 2010. Her entrepreneurial success was recognized with the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award at the 2010 Glamour Women of the Year Awards and the Influencer Award at the 2011 ACE Awards. In writing, she authored the semi-autobiographical novel “The Truth About Diamonds” (2005), which made it onto The New York Times Best-Seller List, followed by her second novel, “Priceless” (2010). Richie’s later acting work includes a main role as news anchor Portia Scott-Griffith in the sitcom “Great News” (2017–2018) and a judging role on the reality competition series “Making the Cut” (2020–2022). She also created and starred in the digital series “Nikki Fre$h” (2020).
