Hendrik Johannes Nicasius “Nyck” de Vries was born on February 6, 1995, in Uitwellingerga, Friesland, Netherlands. His career in motorsport began at a young age with competitive kart racing from age nine. De Vries demonstrated early talent, achieving significant success in karting, including back-to-back victories at the direct-drive Karting World Championship in 2010 and 2011.
He transitioned to junior formulae in 2012, marking a period of consistent progression and notable achievements. De Vries was part of the McLaren Young Driver Programme from 2010 to 2019. He secured his first championship in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2014 with Koiranen, following it up with multiple wins in the 2016 GP3 Series. His efforts culminated in winning the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019 with ART Grand Prix, showcasing his capabilities in a highly competitive junior series.
De Vries further cemented his reputation in electric racing, joining the Mercedes team for the 2019–20 Formula E season. He quickly rose through the ranks, claiming the 2020–21 Formula E World Championship. His career then led him to Formula One, appearing in 11 Grands Prix from 2022 to 2023 with Williams and AlphaTauri, where he scored points on his debut at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. Currently, de Vries competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Toyota and continues his Formula E journey with Mahindra, demonstrating versatility across different racing disciplines.
