Oksana Baiul

Oksana Baiul transitioned from an Olympic gold medalist in figure skating to an entrepreneur and philanthropist, navigating substantial personal and professional challenges. After securing the gold medal in ladies’ singles at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Oksana Baiul became the first Olympic Champion from Ukraine to compete under the Ukrainian flag and the youngest figure skating Olympic champion at the time. Her victory was notably achieved despite a practice collision requiring pain-killing injections. Following this triumph, she was named a Merited Master of Sports by Ukraine in 1994.

Expanding her creative pursuits, she authored two books in 1997: a memoir titled ‘Oksana: My Own Story’ and the instructional guide ‘Secrets of Skating.’ Beyond her on-ice and literary endeavors, Baiul has engaged in various television appearances, broadening her reach to a wider audience. She has also committed herself to significant philanthropic initiatives, actively supporting charitable causes such as the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children and the Tikva Children’s Home Charity in Odesa. Oksana Baiul continues to be actively involved in the world of figure skating, maintaining her connection to the sport that defined her early career.
