Oleksandr Zinchenko was born on December 15, 1996, in Radomyshl, Ukraine. He began his football journey in youth academies, including Youth Sportive School Karpatiya and Shakhtar Donetsk. His early career saw him captaining the Shakhtar youth team, notably scoring against Manchester United in the 2013-14 UEFA Youth League. Following political instability in Ukraine, Zinchenko moved to Russia, eventually signing with FC Ufa in 2015. He made his Russian Premier League debut in March 2015 and scored his first goal for the club in July 2015.
In 2016, Zinchenko’s career advanced significantly when he joined Premier League club Manchester City. He was initially loaned to PSV Eindhoven for the 2016-17 season, gaining experience in the Eredivisie. Upon returning to Manchester City, he transitioned to a left-back role under Pep Guardiola, where his versatility proved valuable. During his tenure at Manchester City from 2016 to 2022, he achieved significant success, winning four Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, and an FA Cup. He also became Ukraine’s youngest goalscorer at 19 and youngest captain at 24. He was named Ukrainian Footballer of the Year in 2019 and has represented his country in three European Championships.
In July 2022, Zinchenko moved to Arsenal for a reported fee of £30 million. He quickly became an integral part of the team, making his debut in August 2022 and scoring his first Arsenal goal in February 2023. He played a key role in Arsenal’s Champions League qualifications. In September 2025, he joined fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan.
