Olatunde Olateju Olaolorun “O-T” Fagbenle, born on January 22, 1981, in London, England, is an Emmy-nominated actor, director, writer, and producer. His early life involved living in London, Spain, and Nigeria, and he developed a passion for music, playing the saxophone in bands and performing at venues such as the Edinburgh Festival, Wembley Arena, and the Royal Albert Hall. At 16, he began his acting career in a Nigerian adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” and later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), graduating early in 2001.
Fagbenle has built a career across theatre, film, and television, recognized for his diverse roles. He gained significant attention for his portrayal of Luke Bankole in the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning drama series “The Handmaid’s Tale” (Hulu), earning a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In film, he appeared as Rick Mason in Marvel’s “Black Widow” (2021). His television career includes playing Barack Obama in Showtime’s “The First Lady” (2022) and Cameron Lautner in Apple TV+’s “WeCrashed” (2022). He created, wrote, directed, composed, executive produced, and starred in his original TV comedy series, “Maxxx” (2020), which broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and streamed on Hulu in the US.
His theatre work includes leading roles in August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” which won an Olivier Award, and a M.E.N. Theatre Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in “Six Degrees of Separation.” Beyond his professional achievements, Fagbenle is involved in philanthropic efforts, volunteering drama and music classes for children and establishing the ABC Foundation, which aims to provide technology opportunities for young women in Africa.
