Paul Fletcher

Paul Fletcher transitioned from a distinguished football career to become a leading expert in stadium development and sports management. After making over 400 appearances for Burnley Football Club in the First Division, Paul Fletcher transitioned from a distinguished football career to become a leading expert in stadium development and sports management. His professional football career began with Bolton Wanderers in 1967, before a club-record fee transfer to Burnley in 1970. During his decade with Burnley, he also earned four England U23 International caps between 1973 and 1974.

Subsequently, Fletcher served as Chief Executive of Arena Coventry Limited from 2001 to 2006, where he spearheaded the construction and delivery of the £64 million Ricoh Arena in Coventry. This comprehensive project, completed in 2005, included a 32,000-seat stadium for Coventry City F.C., a casino, two hotels, an exhibition center, and health facilities. Fletcher’s leadership continued as Managing Director of Coventry City Football Club from 2006 to 2007. He then moved to Burnley Football Club as Chief Executive in 2007, a tenure that culminated in the club’s promotion to the Barclays Premier League in 2009 for the first time in 34 years.

For his significant contributions, Fletcher was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2007 New Year Honours for services to sport and charity. Demonstrating his ongoing commitment to education within the football industry, Fletcher co-founded and became Managing Director of the University & College of Football Business (UCFB) in 2011. Under his guidance, UCFB established innovative campuses at renowned venues including Turf Moor Stadium, Wembley Stadium, and The Etihad Stadium Manchester. In 2011, UCFB also received the FA Football Award for ‘Most innovative use of a football stadium on non-matchdays,’ further solidifying Fletcher’s legacy in both sports development and education.
