Paul Furlong is an English former footballer who played as a striker in the Premier League forChelsea, and for Football League clubs including Coventry City, Birmingham City, Watford, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Barnet, Southend United and Luton Town.
He earned six caps for the England semi-professional team, and since retiring from the game has worked as a senior coach at Queens Park Rangers.Furlong began his professional career at Conference side Enfield before being snapped up by First Division club Coventry City, where he made 37 appearances before moving to Watford. His prolific goal scoring capabilities made him a firm favourite at the club, earning him the title of Watford Player of Season in 1993, and he became widely regarded as one of the finest strikers in the division.In 1993, Furlong became a record signing for Chelsea who paid £2.3 million for the striker, a deal that paid off when he helped the side reach the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup semi-finals. Another record signing followed as he moved to Birmingham for £1.5 million, at a time when the team had big ambitions including promotion to the Premiership. After 130 appearances and 50 goals for the club, he left just after helping the club secure promotion to the top flight.
Furlong enjoyed similar success at his next club QPR, playing 162 league games and scoring 54 goals and helping them to win promotion in 2004.After a playing career spanning over two decades, Furlong is now working as an academy coach for his former club Queens Park Rangers.
