Philip Doyle

An Olympic medalist and medical doctor, Philip Doyle earned a bronze medal in the M2x event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a distinguished achievement in a career marked by multiple World Rowing Championship medals. Doyle graduated with a medical degree from Queen’s University Belfast in 2018. During his studies, he rapidly transitioned his athletic focus to rowing, winning the British University Championships as a novice in 2014. He made his senior international rowing debut for Ireland in 2018, competing in the men’s singles and later placing 9th in the men’s double sculls at the Plovdiv World Championships.

Following a period as a Foundation 1 doctor at Belfast City Hospital from December 2018 to April 2019, Doyle returned to full-time rowing. In 2019, partnered with Ronan Byrne, he secured a silver medal at World Rowing Cup III in Rotterdam, followed by another silver at the World Rowing Championships in Linz. This pivotal achievement qualified their M2x boat for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they subsequently competed. Continuing their strong partnership, Doyle and Byrne earned another silver medal at the World Rowing Cup in Lucerne in 2021.

Throughout his career, Doyle has also competed in numerous other elite events, including World Championships in Plovdiv (2018), Linz (2019), and Belgrade (2023), alongside European Championships in Lucerne (2019), Varese (2021), and Bled (2023). Looking ahead, Doyle plans to focus on his medicine career in 2025, demonstrating his dual commitment to both his athletic and professional medical pursuits, before making a decision on further Olympic aspirations for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
