Phill Lewis

Phillip David Lewis was born on February 14, 1968, in Uganda, to American parents. His father, Delano Lewis, was involved with the U.S. Peace Corps and later served as the United States Ambassador to South Africa. Lewis began his acting career in the late 1980s, making his film debut in the dark comedy “Heathers” in 1988 as Dennis. In 1991, he took on a lead role in the CBS sitcom “Teech,” which ran for thirteen episodes. Over the years, Lewis has appeared in various films, including “City Slickers” (1991), “Bowfinger” (1999), and “Kicking & Screaming” (2005). His television acting credits include guest and recurring roles in popular shows such as “Friends,” “Lizzie McGuire,” “Scrubs,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

Lewis gained widespread recognition for his role as Marion Moseby, the hotel manager, in the Disney Channel original series “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,” which aired from 2005 to 2008. He reprised this character in the spin-off series “The Suite Life on Deck” from 2008 to 2011, and also appeared as Mr. Moseby in the Disney Channel original movie “The Suite Life Movie” in 2011. Beyond acting, Lewis developed a prominent career as a television director. He made his directorial debut with an episode of “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” in 2007 and went on to direct numerous episodes for other Disney Channel shows like “A.N.T. Farm,” “Austin & Ally,” “Good Luck Charlie,” and “Jessie.”

His directing portfolio expanded to include a diverse range of network comedies and dramas. He directed multiple episodes for series such as “Mike & Molly,” “2 Broke Girls,” “The Soul Man,” “Sullivan & Son,” “Melissa & Joey,” “Young & Hungry,” “The Odd Couple,” “One Day at a Time,” “Indebted,” “Head of the Class,” “iCarly,” “Call Me Kat,” and “How I Met Your Father.” He also directed the live episode of “Undateable” in 2015. Lewis continues to be an active director in television, with recent credits including “Night Court” (2024–2025), “Poppa’s House” (2024–2025), and “Frasier” (2023).
