The talented rapper Ibn Young is better known by his stage name Playa Fly. He was initially a member of Three 6 Mafia (as Lil’Fly), and then in 1995 he started pursuing a solo career as Playa Fly. He has released nine studio albums to date, and his latest single, All White, came out in November 2021.
Born and raised in Tennessee to a musician father, Young began his own musical career as Lil’Fly when he was 16-years-old, eventually becoming affiliated withDJ Paul and Juicy J of Triple 6 Mafia (later Three 6 Mafia). He featured on their first mainstream album, Mystic Stylez, and released his first solo single, From Da Darkness of Da Kut, in 1994. He left the group the following year, releasing his infamous diss record Triple Bitch Mafia, and changed his stage name to Playa Fly.
He signed to Super Sigg Records and released his debut album, Fly Shit, in 1996. He released three more albums with Super Sigg, the third of which, Da Game Owe Me, reached No.63 in the US R&B albums chart, and then he created his own label, Minnie Mae Muzik. He began working on his next project, Fly2K, but in 1999 was sentenced to seven-years in prison. The album was eventually released in 2002 with Fly having rapped a cappella over the phone from jail for one track. After being released from prison in mid-2006, he resumed his music career, working on a number of singles and EPs. In 2015 he released two albums: The Road Warriors (with Pastor Troy), and Rooted in Memphis.
