Rainie Yang Cheng Lin was born on June 4, 1984, in Taipei, Taiwan. Her career began in 2000 as a member of the girl group 4 in Love. After the group disbanded in 2002, Yang pursued a solo career in entertainment. She became a television host for the variety show ‘Guess’ from 2002 to 2007. Concurrently, she started taking on acting roles in Taiwanese TV dramas, including the internationally recognized ‘Meteor Garden’ in 2001. Her performance in the 2005 drama ‘Devil Beside You’ marked a significant turning point in her acting career, where she played the lead role of Qi Yue.
In addition to acting, Yang launched a successful solo music career. Her debut album, ‘My Intuition,’ released in 2005, achieved commercial success, selling over 160,000 copies in Taiwan and over 1 million copies across Asia. This was followed by her second album, ‘Meeting Love,’ in 2006, which also sold over 150,000 copies in Taiwan and 1.2 million across Asia. Yang’s acting talents were further recognized when she won Best Actress at the 45th Golden Bell Awards in 2010 for her role as Chen Baozhu in ‘Hi My Sweetheart.’ Through consistent work in both music and acting, Yang established herself as a prominent figure in the Taiwanese entertainment industry, releasing multiple successful albums and starring in various popular television series and films.
Her career continued to progress with a series of studio albums and significant acting roles. In 2014, she signed with EMI Taiwan, a subsidiary of Universal Music Taiwan, and released her ninth studio album, ‘A Tale of Two Rainie.’ This period also saw her participation in various concert tours, including the ‘Whimsical World Tour’ and ‘Love Voyage World Tour,’ performing in cities across Asia and the United States. Yang’s commitment to her craft has earned her multiple awards and nominations, demonstrating her enduring influence in Mandopop and Taiwanese media. Her work includes diverse roles in films like ‘Spider Lilies’ (2007) and ‘The Tag-Along 2’ (2017), alongside her continued musical output.
