Born in Cairo, Egypt, Ramy Romany began his career immersed in documentary filmmaking. Growing up within a family producing documentaries, he gained practical experience on film sets located at ancient Egyptian ruins. By the age of 20, Romany had produced, directed, filmed, and appeared in over one hundred documentaries focused on Ancient Egypt for international networks including Discovery, History, and National Geographic.
Political circumstances led Romany to relocate to Los Angeles, California. This move further expanded his professional network and opportunities within the film industry. He transitioned his focus to cinematography, and his work quickly gained recognition. In 2013, Romany received two EMMY® Award nominations for his cinematography on documentaries filmed in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, ultimately winning an EMMY® for Best Cinematography on a topical documentary. His expertise in Ancient Egyptian history and archaeology has led to appearances as an expert on various major network programs, including “Brew Masters” for the Discovery Channel, “Destination Truth” for SyFy, “Ancient Aliens” for the History Channel, and “Long Way Down” for National Geographic.
In 2015, Romany earned two additional EMMY® Award nominations for his cinematography on the documentaries “Armonia” (filmed in Mexico) and “Visioneer,” securing another EMMY® for Best Cinematography for his work on “Visioneer.” He continues to direct and film a range of television series, live events, and commercial projects, demonstrating a consistent record of awards and contributions to film and television productions across diverse genres.
