Rhonda Honey Shear, born on November 12, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana, embarked on her career path after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Loyola University New Orleans in 1977. Her early career saw her achieving titles in beauty pageants, including Miss Louisiana USA 1975, and making appearances on television shows such as ‘The Gong Show’ and ‘Happy Days’. Her presence in Hollywood expanded with roles in various films and sitcoms, including ‘Spaceballs’ and ‘Married… with Children’. She gained widespread recognition for hosting USA Network’s ‘USA Up All Night’ from 1991 to 1998, where her unique delivery of the show’s title became a memorable catchphrase. This period allowed her to gain considerable insight into costuming and audience engagement.
Leveraging her entertainment industry experiences, Shear transitioned into entrepreneurship. In 2001, she co-founded Shear Enterprises with her husband, Van Fagan, focusing on intimate apparel. The company launched the Rhonda Shear Intimates line at Home Shopping Network (HSN) in 2003, expanding its reach to over 40 countries. A significant milestone for her business was the design and launch of the ‘Ahh Bra’ in 2010, which became a global best-seller, achieving over 25 million units sold. By 2011, her company recorded $72 million in sales, demonstrating substantial commercial success. Her business endeavors have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year: FL and WPO’s 3rd Fastest Woman Owned Business.
Beyond her business achievements, Shear has maintained connections to her comedic roots and expanded into authorship, releasing her book ‘Up All Night: From Hollywood Bombshell to Lingerie Mogul, Life Lessons from an Accidental Feminist’ in 2017. She has also launched a Facebook Live Show titled ‘Rhonda Shear’s -Social Distance- Social Hour’ and a YouTube channel for ‘Up All Night’. Shear is also actively involved in philanthropy, supporting various charitable organizations such as SPCA, American Cancer Society: Making Strides, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Her contributions include manufacturing and donating thousands of masks during the 2020 PPE shortage. She currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, continuing to oversee her business and engage in various projects.
