About

Robert Allen Riggle Jr. was born on April 21, 1970, in Louisville, Kentucky. His family relocated to Overland Park, Kansas, where he graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1988. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Film from the University of Kansas in 1992 and a Master of Public Administration from Webster University in 1997. Riggle joined the Marines in 1990, initially intending to become a naval aviator, but ultimately transitioned to a career in comedy. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and retiring in 2013 after 23 years of service. His military career included deployments to Liberia, Kosovo, Albania, and Afghanistan, and he assisted with recovery efforts at Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks, earning numerous medals and ribbons.

Riggle’s comedic career began with appearances at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and in collaboration with Rob Huebel. He gained national recognition as a featured cast member on “Saturday Night Live” during the 2004-2005 season. Following this, he joined Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in 2006 as a correspondent, a role he held until 2008. His television credits also include recurring roles on “Modern Family” as Gil Thorpe (2013-2019) and co-hosting the miniature golf game show “Holey Moley” (2019-2022). He further expanded his repertoire by appearing in films such as “Step Brothers” (2008), “The Hangover” (2009), “21 Jump Street” (2012), and “The Lorax” (2012).

Beyond acting, Riggle has also contributed as a writer and producer. He wrote and starred in the web series “Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy” (2018) and was an executive producer for “Rob Riggle Global Investigator” (2020) and “First Responders in Crisis” (2023). His versatility extends to voice acting, with roles in animated productions like “UglyDolls” (2019) and “My Dad the Bounty Hunter” (2023).
