Robert Gibbs is a seasoned communications professional known for his roles as White House Press Secretary and executive leadership in global corporations. After interning for Congressman Glen Browder in 1991, quickly advancing to executive assistant, and graduating cum laude from North Carolina State University in 1993 with a B.A. in Political Science, Robert Gibbs began a distinguished career in political communications. He served as press secretary for Congressman Bob Etheridge in 1997, followed by a role as spokesman for Senator Fritz Hollings’ successful re-election campaign in 1998.
Gibbs further honed his expertise as communications director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, contributing to two additional Senate campaigns. In 2004, he took on the high-profile position of press secretary for John Kerry’s presidential campaign, subsequently becoming a spokesman for a political group opposing Howard Dean. Gibbs’ career trajectory escalated significantly in mid-April 2004 when he joined Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign as communications director, remaining a key advisor throughout Obamas first two years in the Senate.
The following year, in 2013, he co-founded The Incite Agency, establishing a strategic communications practice, and concurrently became a respected contributor for MSNBC. From 2015 to 2019, Gibbs held a significant leadership position as executive vice president and global chief communications officer for McDonald’s, overseeing worldwide communication strategies for the iconic brand. Continuing his impactful career in strategic communications, Gibbs joined Bully Pulpit Interactive as senior counsel in March 2020. In this role, he provides high-level guidance on complex communication challenges for a diverse client base.
Most recently, in June 2024, Robert Gibbs was named Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer for Warner Bros. Discovery, a major leadership appointment within one of the world’s leading media and entertainment conglomerates.
