Roberto Merhi was born on March 22, 1991, in Castellón de la Plana, Spain. His career in motorsports commenced with strong performances in junior categories. In 2007, Merhi competed in the Italian Formula Renault and the Formula Renault Eurocup, showcasing early potential. He continued to excel, becoming runner-up in the Formula Renault 2.0 WEC in 2008 and securing victories in the Spanish Formula Three Championship. A pivotal point in his early career was winning the Formula 3 Euro Series championship in 2011 with Prema Powerteam, where he achieved 11 wins and 20 podium finishes. This success led to his progression into higher-tier racing.
Merhi’s diverse racing journey includes stints in DTM, where he achieved a 2nd place finish in 2013, and the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, where he finished 3rd in the championship in 2014 with Zeta Corse, securing 3 wins and 7 podiums. His Formula One debut came in 2015 with Manor Marussia F1 Team, where he participated in 13 races, demonstrating his capability at the pinnacle of motorsport. Throughout his career, Merhi has consistently sought new challenges, transitioning into sports car and endurance racing, including the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Asian Le Mans Series, where he finished third in the Drivers’ Championship in 2020 with Eurasia Motorsport. He also competed in the S5000 Tasman Series in 2021, finishing as runner-up.
More recently, Merhi has made his mark in electric racing. After a successful rookie test in Berlin, he joined Mahindra Racing for the 2023 Formula E season, participating in seven races. He continues to compete in Super GT, driving for Team LeMans in the GT300 class. Parallel to his racing, Merhi also serves as a sporting director for TC Racing in Spanish F4, utilizing his vast experience to mentor emerging talent. His adaptability and sustained presence across various top-tier racing categories highlight a career marked by professional commitment and a pursuit of competitive excellence.
