Rohan Gotobed was born in Poole, Dorset, in 1998. He began his career in acting at a young age, appearing in significant productions such as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” (2011), where he played Young Sirius Black. His early television credits include roles in “Casualty” (2016) and “Doctors” (2015), alongside a part in the series “Hoff the Record” (2015). Gotobed’s acting work also extends to films like “Possum” (2018) as Andrew and “Beneath the Skin” (2015) as Louis Garrett. He was studying English Literature and Drama at the University of East Anglia, having graduated from Poole Grammar School in 2016.
Following his acting performances, Gotobed pursued further education, earning an MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck. This academic background marked a significant turning point in his career, pivoting his focus towards directing and writing for the stage. He is currently the Artistic Director of Dorsetborn, an associate company of the National Youth Theatre, where he focuses on developing new narratives in diverse locations, aiming to create accessible and engaging theatrical experiences.
His directorial work includes collaborating with emerging writers like Tabitha Hayward, Erin De Frias, and Natalia Lewis. Gotobed has also directed productions in unique venues such as The National Gallery and the Museum of East Dorset, and has developed audio tours for sites including Kingston Lacy and Shad Thames. He serves as the Lead Facilitator for Poole Lighthouse’s Young Writers programme and is actively involved in writing a young company play with MAST Mayflower Studios. His commitment lies in working with new writers, community engagement, site-specific theatre, and creating work for young audiences.
