Roma Downey

Following her impactful role in the 1991 miniseries A Woman Named Jackie, Roma Downey gained significant recognition for her starring portrayal of Monica, the tender-hearted angel, in the hit CBS series Touched by an Angel. Airing for nearly a decade from 1994 to 2003, this acclaimed role earned her multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, solidifying her presence in mainstream television. Building on her artistic endeavors, Downey signed with RCA Victor Records, releasing the CD Healing Angel in 1999. Transitioning from acting, Downey established herself as a prominent producer, now serving as President of LightWorkers, a joint venture with MGM.

Under this banner, she and her husband, Mark Burnett, produced the critically acclaimed miniseries The Bible for HISTORY in 2013, captivating over 100 million viewers in the U.S. and receiving three Emmy nominations. This success was followed by the successful feature film Son of God in 2014, which achieved significant box office success. Downey continued to produce a wide range of inspirational content, including Netflix series like Messiah and Country Ever After, as well as The Dovekeepers for CBS and A.D.

In 2024, she executive produced and starred in the series The Baxters. Her continued impact will be recognized with the Women in Leadership Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and The Visionary Award at the 2025 Movieguide Awards. Beyond her extensive work in film and television, Downey actively serves as an ambassador for Operation Smile, participating in humanitarian missions globally and demonstrating her dedication to philanthropic endeavors.
