Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman has transitioned from a prolific goal-scoring defender to a celebrated football manager, known for leading top clubs and national teams. After securing the European Cup with PSV Eindhoven in 1988 and the UEFA Euro title with the Netherlands in the same year, Ronald Koeman became one of only five European players to win a treble with their club and a cup with their national team within a single season. His impressive playing career began with FC Groningen, quickly progressing to AFC Ajax in 1983 where he secured the national Eredivisie title in the 1984–85 season and the KNVB Cup in 1985–86. Moving to rivals PSV Eindhoven in 1986, Koeman achieved three consecutive Eredivisie titles between 1986 and 1989, along with KNVB Cups in 1987–88 and 1988–89, solidifying his reputation as a formidable goal-scoring defender.

In 1989, Koeman made a significant move to FC Barcelona, becoming an integral part of Johan Cruyff’s legendary ‘Dream Team.’ During his six years at the club, he contributed to four consecutive La Liga titles from 1991 to 1994 and famously scored the winning goal in the 1992 European Cup Final against Sampdoria, securing Barcelona’s first European title. His tenure also saw Barcelona clinch the 1989–90 Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de España in 1991, 1992, and 1994, and the 1992 European Super Cup. Internationally, Koeman was a pivotal member of the Netherlands national team, featuring in the 1990 and captaining the team in the 1994 FIFA World Cups, building on his UEFA Euro 1988 triumph. Transitioning into management, Koeman continued his legacy of collecting accolades.

Koeman returned to manage the Netherlands national team in 2023, where he has successfully guided them to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, reinforcing his status as a top-tier international coach.
