Sam Worthington

Samuel Henry John Worthington was born on August 2, 1976, in Surrey, England, and moved to Australia at six months old, growing up in Warnbro, Western Australia. His early career included significant roles in Australian television and film, notably graduating from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 1998. He received critical recognition for his performance as “Arthur Wellesley” in the Belvoir Street Theatre’s “Judas Kiss.” Worthington’s film debut came in the Australian movie “Bootmen” (2000), followed by roles in “Hart’s War” (2002) and “Dirty Deeds” (2002). A turning point in his Australian career was his starring role in “Somersault” (2004), for which he won the AACTA award for Best Male Actor, cementing his status in the national industry.

His career gained international momentum when he was cast in James Cameron’s “Avatar” (2009) as Jake Sully, a role that brought him global recognition a film which became and remains the highest-grossing film of all time. This was followed by his portrayal of Marcus Wright in “Terminator Salvation” (2009). Worthington continued to star in high-profile films such as “Clash of the Titans” (2010), “The Debt” (2010) and its sequel “Wrath of the Titans” (2012), solidifying his presence in major Hollywood productions. He also lent his voice to the popular “Call of Duty: Black Ops” video game series.

Worthington expanded his work into production, co-founding Full Clip Productions in 2010 with John Schwarz and Michael Schwarz, and collaborating with Radical Studios on graphic novels. In recent years, he has taken on diverse roles in films such as “Everest” (2015), “Hacksaw Ridge” (2016), and “The Shack” (2017). His television work includes the miniseries “Manhunt: Unabomber” (2017) and “Under the Banner of Heaven” (2022). He reprised his iconic role as Jake Sully in “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), which also achieved significant critical and commercial success, and is slated for upcoming sequels.
