Samantha Bee

Samantha Bee was born on October 25, 1969, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her early life saw her parents separate, and she was primarily raised by her grandmother. She attended Humberside Collegiate Institute and York Memorial Collegiate Institute. After high school, Bee pursued humanities at McGill University before transferring to the University of Ottawa, where she discovered an affinity for performing after enrolling in a theatre class. This newfound passion led her to the George Brown Theatre School in Toronto, where she further honed her craft. Early in her career, while working as a waitress, Bee toured with a stage production of “Sailor Moon” playing the titular role. She also co-founded The Atomic Fireballs, an all-female sketch comedy troupe based in Toronto.

Bee’s career took a significant turn in 2003 when she joined “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” as a correspondent. Over her 12-year tenure, she became the longest-serving regular correspondent on the show, known for her ability to engage with people and highlight satirical elements in political and social discourse. Her segments often showcased her distinctive comedic style, characterized by a direct yet humorous approach. In 2015, Bee departed “The Daily Show” to launch her own satirical news program, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” on TBS. The show premiered in February 2016, making her the first woman to host a late-night satire show. “Full Frontal” garnered critical acclaim for its unique perspective and in-depth exploration of issues often overlooked by traditional media.

Throughout her career, Bee has been recognized for her contributions to comedy and media. In addition to her television work, she authored the book “I Know I Am, But What Are You?” published in 2010. She also co-created and executive produced “The Detour,” a TBS comedy series inspired by her personal experiences. In 2017, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2018, she founded Swimsuit Competition, a production company dedicated to creating diverse narrative and documentary content. “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” concluded in 2022 after seven seasons, marked by a business-based decision by TBS. Bee continues to be a prominent voice in comedy and media.
