Sasha Roiz was born on October 21, 1973, in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Russian Jewish parents. His family relocated to Montreal, Canada, in 1980. Prior to pursuing acting, Roiz studied history. He later received theatrical training at the Guildford School of Acting in the United Kingdom. Upon his return to Montreal, he consistently engaged in theatre work, receiving a nomination for his performance at the ‘Masques Awards,’ Quebec’s theater awards.
Roiz’s introduction to feature films included a supporting role in “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004). He subsequently appeared in “16 Blocks” (2006), “Man of the Year” (2006), and “Unthinkable” (2010). His first starring film role was in the independent science fiction thriller “Extracted,” which premiered at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival. On television, Roiz has made guest appearances on various notable programs such as “House,” “The Mentalist,” “Lie To Me,” “CSI,” “NCIS,” “Castle,” and had a recurring role on “Warehouse 13.”
From 2011 to 2017, Roiz starred in the NBC series “Grimm” as Captain Renard, a politically experienced superior officer. This followed his regular role as Sam Adama, a mob enforcer, in the Syfy series “Caprica.” More recently, he has appeared in “Chicago Med” as Jack Dayton (2022–2023), “The Endgame” as President Andrew Wright (2022), and provided voice work for animated projects like “Turning Red” (2022) and “Superman: Red Son” (2020). He also had recurring roles in “Suits” (2019) and “9-1-1” (2020–2021).
