Canadian comedian Scott Thompson’s long and successful career has seen him achieve fame through roles such as Brian in the last three seasons of the landmark Larry Sanders Show, various characters in over 100 episodes of the influential Canadian sketch show, The Kids in the Hall, crime scene investigator Jimmy Price in the multi-award-winning series, Hannibal, and many other roles. His work on The Kids in the Hall won him various awards and saw him nominated for three Primetime Emmys His recent roles include voicing the character of Thistle in the Dreamworks animated series, Pinecone & Pony.
After being thrown out of university for being disruptive, Thompson joined a comedy troupe called The Kids in the Hall. In 1989, they were given their own TV sketch show, which ran for six years and became a big influence on the likes of South Park. Thompson was one of the show’s stars, known for his impressions of Queen Elizabeth II and characters such as socialite Buddy Cole. In 1995, just as the show concluded, Thompson joined another major comedy series: The Larrys Sanders Show. He would play Brian (PA to Larry Sanders’ sidekick, Hank) for the show’s final three seasons.
Thompson faced down very genuine danger in the early 2000s when a planned satirical film about then-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein led to his house being firebombed by a terrorist group. The off-Broadway comedy show he then wrote about terrorism had to be abandoned as it premiered the night before 9/11. But despite these setbacks, Thompson has remained devoted to comedy and acting.
