Astin continued to build his filmography with roles in Toy Soldiers (1991), Encino Man (1992), and the critically acclaimed Rudy (1993), where he portrayed the inspiring real-life football player Daniel Ruettiger. His talents extended behind the camera in 1994, when he directed and co-produced ‘Kangaroo Court,’ which was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
