Sean Astin

Having earned an Academy Award nomination in 1995 for directing and co-producing the short film ‘Kangaroo Court,’ Sean Astin has built a prolific career as an actor, director, producer, and advocate. His feature film debut as Mikey Walsh in Steven Spielberg’s iconic film The Goonies (1985) established him as a prominent young talent. Astin continued to build his filmography with roles in Toy Soldiers (1991), Encino Man (1992), and the critically acclaimed Rudy (1993), where he portrayed the inspiring real-life football player Daniel Ruettiger. His talents extended behind the camera in 1994, when he directed and co-produced ‘Kangaroo Court,’ which was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

He has also served in non-partisan Presidential appointments and advocates for literacy, mental health, and civic engagement. Looking ahead, Astin is set to make his Broadway debut as Santa Claus in Elf the Musical in 2024, showcasing his versatility across different theatrical platforms. Demonstrating his leadership within the industry, he was elected National President of SAG-AFTRA for 2025, a testament to his dedication and influence in the entertainment community.
