Sean Avery is a retired professional NHL ice hockey player who moved on to a variety of interests including modelling, acting, writing books about his life and being a co-owner of successful bars and restaurants. He was born in 1980 in North York, Toronto, Canada and grew up in Pickering, Ontario with his younger brother Scott.
Avery played NHL ice hockey between 2000 and 2012 as a left-winger. He first played for the Detroit Red Wings and also played for the Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Dallas stars. By the end of his career he had scored 90 goals.
When he retired from ice hockey in 2012, he worked for a time at Lipman an advertising and creative agency.
He has modelled and his adverts have been featured in up market magazines such as Vanity Fair. He is an actor and has worked on Mile 22, Patriots Day and Tenet. Avery married top model Hilary Rhoda in 2015. He is a director of Athlete Ally a non- profit organisation with the aim of educating people in the athletic community about homophobia and trans phobia to reduce prejudice.
