Shan Boodram developed an early interest in the body and romantic relationships. This interest was not initially supported. At the age of 19, she began independently researching sex and relationships, which informed her understanding of the subject. She realized there was a need for accessible and engaging sex education. To support herself during the early phase of her career, she took on roles as an extra in film and television productions, including an appearance in the intro of the movie “Mean Girls.”
In 2009, Shan Boodram published her first book, “LAID: Young People’s Experiences with Sex in an Easy-Access Culture.” Following this, from 2010 to 2014, she worked as a wedding photographer. A turning point occurred when she received an offer for a sex expert role on a BET show in Los Angeles in 2015. Although the show did not air, she relocated to Los Angeles and launched her sex education YouTube channel. This channel contributed to her gaining public recognition and led to collaborations with media companies such as MTV.
Since 2017, Shan Boodram’s career has included hosting television shows, publishing additional books, and launching a podcast. She has also co-founded companies and holds key positions in others. These activities include developing her ‘Lovers’ community, serving as the Chief Intimacy Officer for Arya, and working as a sex and relationship expert for Bumble. She also partners with ByHeart and Dame, and is an investor in MMD New Jersey.
