About

Shane Michael Gillis was born on December 11, 1987, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He began his career in comedy in 2012, performing regularly in Harrisburg and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. To advance his career, he relocated to Philadelphia. In 2015, Gillis placed third at Helium Comedy Club’s “Philly’s Phunniest” tournament, winning the competition the following year. In 2016, he co-launched “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” with fellow comedian Matt McCusker, which grew to become the most subscribed-to podcast on Patreon by 2024. His early career also included frequent guest appearances on “The Bonfire.” In 2019, Comedy Central named Gillis an “Up Next” comedian, and he was recognized as a “New Face” at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.

Gillis gained wider recognition in September 2019 when he was announced as a new cast member for NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was fired five days later due to controversy over past comments made on his podcast. Following this, Gillis continued to develop his craft. In December 2020, he and John McKeever launched the web series “Gilly and Keeves.” In 2021, Gillis released his first live comedy special, “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin,” on YouTube, which was critically acclaimed. His second special, “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs,” was released on Netflix in 2023. He has also appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast as part of the “Protect Our Parks” episodes.

His career has seen further expansion into television and film. In 2023, Gillis had a recurring role in the Peacock series “Bupkis.” In 2024, he co-created, wrote, and executive produced the Netflix comedy series “Tires,” in which he also stars. The series was renewed for a second season in 2024 and a third season in 2026. Gillis also hosted an episode of “Saturday Night Live” in February 2024, marking a return to the show after his earlier departure. He has engaged in various brand partnerships, including appearing in a Bud Light Super Bowl LIX advertisement in 2025 alongside Peyton Manning and Post Malone. In March 2025, Gillis was added as a playable character to the video game “EA Sports College Football 25.'”
