Shane Harper

Shane Steven Harper was born on February 14, 1993, in La Jolla, California. He began his performing arts journey at the age of nine, engaging in dancing, singing, and acting in community theater. During his early years, he also studied martial arts, achieving a black belt in Kempo Karate between the ages of four and twelve. Harper’s professional career began to take shape in 2006 when a talent agent, present at a regional dance competition, offered him representation. This turning point led to his early involvement in dance roles, including being a lead dancer in a music video and on Nickelodeon’s “Dance on Sunset.” Harper’s foundational training in various dance styles, alongside his musical abilities, prepared him for a diverse career in entertainment.

His acting career gained momentum with minor roles as a principal dancer in productions like “High School Musical 2” (2007) before transitioning to more prominent acting roles. In 2010, Harper secured his first film roles in “My Name is Khan” and “Flipped.” That same year, he began a recurring role as Spencer Walsh on Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie” and guest-starred on “Wizards of Waverly Place.” A significant milestone in his film career was starring as Josh Wheaton in the Christian-based film “God’s Not Dead” (2014), a role he reprised in “God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness” (2018). Harper has continued to build his resume with roles in television series such as “Hightown” (2020), “A Teacher” (2020), and “Power Book IV: Force” (2022–2025).

Beyond acting, Harper is also an accomplished musician and songwriter. In 2011, he signed with AMi Records and released his self-titled debut album. He toured as an opening act for artists like Greyson Chance, Cody Simpson, and Miranda Cosgrove. He continued his musical endeavors, releasing the “Dancin in the Rain” EP in 2012 and later signing a record deal with Capitol Music Group in 2016, under which he released the “Like I Did” EP. Harper’s song “Hold You Up,” from the film “God’s Not Dead,” reached number 1 on Billboard’s Hot AC/CHR charts, demonstrating his impact in the music industry.
