About

Shannon Noll was born on September 16, 1975, in Orange, New South Wales, Australia. He spent his early years on a family farm in Tullibigeal, New South Wales, and later moved to Sydney where he met his wife, Rochelle Ogston, and played AFL. Before his rise to fame, Noll worked shearing sheep and, along with his brothers, formed a band named Cypress, performing in country pubs. The band primarily played covers but also developed original music. A significant life event for Noll was the tragic passing of his father in a farming accident in 2001, an experience that later inspired his song “Now I Run” from his album “Lift.”

Noll’s career trajectory began in 2003 when he successfully auditioned for the inaugural season of Australian Idol. His rendition of Southern Sons’ “Hold Me in Your Arms” impressed the judges and the public, leading him to the grand final. Although he placed second, his participation on Australian Idol launched a successful recording career. Following the show, Noll signed a five-album deal with BMG Australia, which later merged with Sony. His debut single, a cover of “What About Me?”, was released in January 2004 and immediately soared to number one on the ARIA Singles Chart, holding the top position for four consecutive weeks. It became Australia’s highest-selling single of 2004 and was certified 4x platinum. This success was followed by his debut album, “That’s What I’m Talking About,” which also reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and achieved 5x platinum certification.

Throughout his career, Noll has maintained a notable presence in the Australian music industry. He has released five top-ten albums, with two achieving number one and multi-platinum status. His first ten singles consistently peaked within the ARIA top ten, a record making him the only Australian male artist to achieve ten consecutive top-ten singles. Key achievements include multiple ARIA Music Award nominations and wins, including five ARIA No. 1 Chart Awards. He also received the MTV Australia Video Music Award for Best Male Artist for three consecutive years from 2005 to 2007. Noll has also been involved in stage musicals, including “Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds,” and has made television appearances on shows like “Dancing with the Stars Australia” and “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”. In 2012, he released his autobiography, “Shannon Noll: So Far,” detailing his personal and professional journey.
