Shedeur Sanders was born in Dallas, Texas, and attended Trinity Christian High School, where he initiated a highly successful football career. Across four varsity seasons, he completed 805 of 1,238 passes for 12,627 yards and 166 touchdowns, achieving a 47-5 record and securing multiple state championships. His early career at Trinity Christian laid the foundation for his future accomplishments in college football.
Sanders continued his collegiate career at Jackson State, where he played for two seasons, from 2021 to 2022. During this period, he led Jackson State to a 23-3 record, including a perfect 16-0 in SWAC games, and secured two SWAC championships. He set school records for season passing touchdowns (40) and completions (344), accumulating 6,983 passing yards and 70 touchdowns. His performance earned him the Jerry Rice FCS National Freshman of the Year and the SWAC Player of the Year in 2022. Following his time at Jackson State, Sanders transferred to the University of Colorado, where he further solidified his reputation as a top quarterback.
At Colorado, Sanders played for two seasons, starting in 24 games. He broke over 100 school records, including career passing touchdowns (64) and the highest passer rating in a season (165.9 in 2024). In his senior season (2024), he completed 353 of 477 passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, earning the Johnny Unitas Award as the top college quarterback, second-team AP All-American honors, and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. In 2023, he started 11 games, completing 298 of 430 passes for 3,230 yards and 31 touchdowns. In the 2025 NFL Draft, he was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round (144th overall).
