Sholto Carnegie

Born on February 28, 1995, in London, England, Sholto Carnegie spent his formative years in Oxford. His introduction to rowing occurred at the age of 12, sparked by observing college students rowing during a family outing. He began his rowing career at the City of Oxford Rowing Club, quickly developing a passion for the sport’s competitive aspects. This early engagement set the foundation for a distinguished career in rowing, leading him to national and international stages.

Carnegie pursued his undergraduate degree at Yale University from 2014 to 2018, where he earned a B. Economics. During his time at Yale, he was an integral part of the university’s rowing team, contributing to their historic National Championship victory. This period of academic and athletic development at a high-performance institution was crucial in shaping his abilities and competitive mindset. He rowed alongside future GB teammates Charlie Elwes, Tom Digby, and Ollie Wynne-Griffith, fostering a strong team dynamic that would benefit his professional career.

Following his university career, Carnegie achieved significant milestones in senior international rowing. He earned back-to-back World Championship titles in 2022 and 2023 as part of the GB men’s eight. His career culminated in a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Rowing Regatta in the Men’s eight event. Beyond his athletic achievements, Carnegie is also involved in a college advising business, Crew Connection, which assists student-athletes in gaining admission to top U.S. rowing universities.
