Felipe Massa, born on April 25, 1981, in São Paulo, Brazil, began his racing career in karting at the age of eight. He quickly demonstrated his talent, securing national and regional championships before advancing to junior formulae in 1998. Massa’s early career saw him win multiple championships, including Formula Chevrolet and Formula Renault titles. In 2001, he further solidified his reputation by winning the Euro Formula 3000 Championship with Draco Racing, a significant milestone that led to his entry into Formula One.
Massa made his Formula One debut in 2002 with Sauber, where he showcased competitive driving despite occasional errors. After a year as a test driver for Ferrari in 2003, he returned to Sauber for two more seasons before moving to Ferrari in 2006. His tenure at Ferrari marked a period of notable success, including 11 Grand Prix wins and a close second-place finish in the 2008 World Drivers’ Championship. A significant turning point in his career occurred at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he sustained a serious injury during qualifying. Following his recovery, Massa continued to race for Ferrari until 2013, contributing to two World Constructors’ Championships.
In 2014, Massa joined Williams, where he achieved further podium finishes and his first pole position in six years at the Austrian Grand Prix. He retired from Formula One at the end of the 2017 season, concluding a career marked by 11 wins, 16 pole positions, 15 fastest laps, and 41 podiums. Post-Formula One, Massa competed in Formula E from 2018 to 2020 for Venturi and has been actively involved in the Stock Car Pro Series in Brazil since 2018. In 2023, he secured his first race win since the 2008 Formula One season finale, demonstrating his enduring competitive drive. He also participates in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for Riley.
