A standout performer from his collegiate career, leading his Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College team to six trophies, Shreyas Iyer made an immediate impact on the domestic cricket scene. His skills were honed during a 2014 stint with the Trent Bridge Cricket Team in the UK, averaging 99 runs across three matches, with a high of 171. Iyer debuted for Mumbai in List A in November 2014 and first-class (December 2014) debuts in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 809 runs in his inaugural Ranji season (2014-15) with two centuries and six fifties.
His leadership led to the captaincy for Delhi Daredevils in April 2018, guiding them to their first IPL final in 2020. On the international stage, Iyer debuted for India in T20Is in November 2017 against New Zealand and in ODIs in December 2017 against Sri Lanka. He notably marked his Test debut in November 2021 against New Zealand with a century, becoming the first Indian to achieve a century and a half-century in his debut Test innings. He also recorded 147 runs in February 2019, the highest by an Indian batsman in a T20 match.
