Siwoo Kim made golfing history in 201 when, aged 21, he became the youngest-ever player to win The Players Championship. The tournament is one of the most prestigious in golf, with a multi-million-dollar prize for the champion, and only comprises of the world’s top-ranked players. He is currently ranked as one of the 30 best golfers in the world.
Kim was born in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, in 1995. His professional golfing career began when he successfully finished in the top 20 of the 2012 PGA Tour Qualifying School. The problem was that he qualified when he was 17 years old, and a player cannot join the PGA until they turn 18. In the end, Kim joined the tour halfway through the season. His second season was more successful; he played on many Web.com Tour events and finished third at the 2014 Cleveland Open. The following year, he won the Stonebrae Classic, his first major tournament win. He became the second-youngest winner of a Web.com event.
In 2016, Kim achieved his first PGA victory, the Wyndham Championship, making him the youngest winner of the season. His historic Players Championship win came the following year, when he beat Louis Oosthuizen and Ian Poulter, two of the best golfers in the world. He had been ranked 73rd in the world at the start of the tournament but promptly moved up to 28th. In 2018, he came painfully close to winning the RBC Championship but narrowly lost to Japan’s Satoshi Kodaira. Still young, Kim is only going to get better.
