Skate (born Nathan Montgomery Maloley on January 17, 1995), also known as Skate Maloley and Sk8, is an American rapper, songwriter, and music producer from Omaha, Nebraska. Skate’s debut song, Little Bit, was featured in the 2015 film The Chosen, which starred YouTuber Kian Lawley and actress Elizabeth Keener. Skate has released four full-length album mixtapes: Twenty-Fifteen, Maloski, Skaterade, and Late 2 The Party, in addition to further single releases. Young Skate & Sammy and Sammy & Skate were Skate’s first collaborations with childhood friend Sammy Wilk (born Samuel Wilkinson). The two have worked together on several songs, including Where Art Thou, a collaboration with DJ Rupp that has received over a million YouTube views to date.
Skate went on his first-ever headlining tour in early 2016 to support his mixtape Skaterade. Beginning in San Francisco and culminating in a sold-out show at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, California, the tour visited 15 US cities. Skate has shared the stage with artists such as Rae Sremmurd, Jack & Jack, Derek Luh and Sammy Wilk.
During a show date for the Skaterade Tour at New York City’s Webster Hall, Skate and his tour mates got into an argument with Gerard McNamee from the venue’s security team, resulting in a brawl. The next night’s show in Boston was cancelled due to the gravity of the situation. Billboard, Complex, SPIN and other outlets covered the incident. Skate followed up with a track named Webster Hall, which he posted on SoundCloud a few days later.
