Joe Bob Briggs is a widely recognised American Film critic, writer and actor who was born in 1953 in Dallas, Texas. His parents are Thelma Louise and Rudolph Lewis Bloom. He grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas and went to Vanderbilt University. He started his writing career at the Dallas Times Herald and Texas Monthly. While reviewing movies in a humorous way he created the personality ‘Joe Bob Briggs’. To entertain he puts over the personality of an ‘unapologetic redneck Texan’ with lots of fun, colourful tales to tell.
In 1985 he launched his One-Man show, ‘An Evening with Joe Bob Briggs’. The popular show involved storytelling, comedy and music. It toured to over 50 venues in the following years across the states. In 2019 he again performed a one-man show ‘How Rednecks Saved Hollywood’. The stage shows were so successful that in 1986 Joe Bob was offered work on TV as a guest host on ‘Drive In Theatre’ and was given a long-term contract. This went on to be the Network’s highest rated show.
He has appeared on many talk shows such as ‘Larry King Live’ and has worked as a commentator for ‘Fox News Magazine’. He moved to the TNT Network hosting ‘Monster Vision’ for four years. For two seasons he was a commentator on Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ and in 2018 he was signed by the video on demand service ‘Shudder’. Briggs has kept active as a writer, freelancing for well-known publications, writing shows and publishing books of satire.
