Sodiq Olamide Yusuff, born on May 19, 1993, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a Nigerian-American professional mixed martial artist. Raised in a polygamous community, he moved to the United States with his mother and younger brother at the age of nine. Yusuff’s interest in battle, stemming from anime, led him to pursue mixed martial arts. He started training in 2012, fulfilling a childhood dream to compete in the UFC. Before his professional career, he accumulated an amateur record of 9-0, winning WKA, Cagezilla, and Spartyka titles, demonstrating his potential in the sport. He also attended college for two semesters before fully committing to his fighting career.
Yusuff made his professional MMA debut at Shogun Fights 14 in April 2016, defeating Alvin Mercer by second-round TKO. He continued his winning streak with victories over Chuka Willis and John Ramirez. In August 2017, he secured a first-round KO against Vladim Ogar at CFFC 66. His career progression saw a setback in December 2017 when he challenged Luis Gomez for the Titan FC Featherweight Championship, losing by KO in the first round. However, he quickly rebounded with a first-round TKO win over Dylan Tuke at Brave CF 10 in March 2018. His consistent performance led him to Dana White’s Contender Series 14 in July 2018, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Mike Davis, securing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Since joining the UFC, Yusuff has established himself as a notable competitor. He made his Octagon debut in December 2018 at UFC Fight Night: dos Santos vs. Tuivasa, where he stopped Suman Mokhtarian via strikes in the first round, earning a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus. Over the next few years, he secured significant wins against opponents like Gabriel Benítez (TKO, 2019), Andre Fili (unanimous decision, 2020), and Alex Caceres (unanimous decision, 2022). A notable achievement includes his ‘Fight of the Night’ award for his bout against Edson Barboza in October 2023. Yusuff became a U.S. citizen during his training camp for UFC 246 in January 2020. He has maintained an active fight schedule, competing regularly in high-profile UFC events, and continues to be a prominent figure in the Lightweight division.
