Thomas Michaelsen made history as the first lacrosse player ever drafted professionally from St. John’s University, marking a significant milestone in the sport. He was selected 42nd overall in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft by the San Francisco Dragons and 24th overall in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft by the Minnesota Swarm. His dual drafting showcased not only his talent but also the growing recognition of lacrosse at the collegiate level. Michaelsen continued his professional career with the New York Lizards in the MLL and played for the Swarm in 2009, leaving a mark on both leagues.
After concluding his playing career, Michaelsen transitioned into entrepreneurship, channeling his passion for lacrosse into business. He founded 365Lax Inc., a company based in Long Island that offers lacrosse-specific services for players from kindergarten through 12th grade. His mission is to provide year-round training and support for young athletes, ensuring they have access to the resources needed to excel in the sport. Under his leadership, 365Lax has become a prominent name in youth lacrosse development.
In addition to 365Lax, Michaelsen co-founded College Bound Laxers (CB Laxers), an organization that has successfully helped over 600 athletes secure spots on collegiate lacrosse teams. His dedication to fostering the next generation of players demonstrates his commitment to the sport and its growth at the grassroots level. Through CB Laxers, Michaelsen provides invaluable guidance and mentorship to aspiring collegiate athletes, helping them navigate the recruiting process.
Michaelsen is also a co-founder of the US Academy of Lacrosse, a state-of-the-art sports complex located in Farmingdale, New York. This facility serves as a hub for training and development, offering players a platform to hone their skills and pursue their lacrosse ambitions.
