Thompson Square is a country music duo formed by husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson. Keifer, originally from Miami, Oklahoma, and Shawna, a native of Chatom, Alabama, met at a singing competition in Nashville, Tennessee. Both pursued solo careers initially before joining forces to form the duo. In 2007, they provided backing vocals for Ty Herndon’s album, “Right About Now.” Their career began to gain momentum when they signed with Stoney Creek Records, a sister label of Broken Bow Records, in January 2010.
The duo released their debut single “Let’s Fight” in mid-2010, which was well-received. Their second single, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,” released in July 2010, became their first number one hit on the Hot Country Songs chart and achieved double-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. This track was also the most played country song of 2010. Their self-titled debut album was released in February 2011, producing further hits like “I Got You” and “Glass.” In April 2012, Thompson Square received the “Vocal Duo of the Year” award at the Academy of Country Music Awards, a recognition they earned again in 2013.
Their second album, “Just Feels Good,” followed in March 2013, featuring the number one single “If I Didn’t Have You.” This album also produced “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About,” another Top 10 hit. After parting ways with Stoney Creek Records in 2016, they self-released their third album, “Masterpiece,” in 2018. They signed a new recording deal with Reviver Entertainment in March 2019, leading to the re-release of the title track “Masterpiece” as a single that year. In more recent years, Thompson Square has continued to release new music and singles, including “Country in My Soul” (2022) and “Without You” (2023), and engaged in tour activities.
