Tom Christopher Brittney was born on October 26, 1990, in Gravesend, Kent, England. At the age of 12, he moved to Devon, where his mother taught drama, and he attended Colyton Grammar School. Brittney later trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. His early career saw him appear in various television productions, establishing a foundation for his later prominent roles.
Brittney’s professional acting career began in 2013 with an appearance in the daytime soap opera “Doctors.” The following year, he joined the cast of the historical/fantasy series “Outlander,” playing Lieutenant Jeremy Foster across three episodes between 2014 and 2016. He also appeared in “Call the Midwife” and the short film “The Unknowns” in 2014. In 2015, he took on the role of DS Ken Howells in the crime drama “The Five,” which ran for eight episodes in 2016. That same year, he had recurring roles in “The Syndicate” as Tyler Mitchell and as Roger Lockwood in eight episodes of “UnREAL” from 2015 to 2018, in addition to playing Greg in “Humans.” His film work includes “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” in 2017, where he played Tim.
A significant turning point in Brittney’s career came in June 2018 when he joined the ITV crime drama “Grantchester” as Reverend Will Davenport, effectively taking over from previous lead James Norton. He starred as a lead character from series 4 to 8, appearing in 34 episodes between 2019 and 2024. In 2020, Brittney played Billy in the television film “Make Me Famous,” a drama exploring the impact of reality TV. He also featured in the 2020 film “Greyhound” as Lt.
