Tracy Richard Irving Ulrich, known professionally as Tracii Guns, was born on January 20, 1966. Early in his career, he formed the band Pyrrhus while attending Fairfax High in Los Angeles, alongside future L.A. Guns members Robert Gardner and Michael Jagosz. In 1983, Guns officially established L.A. Guns with Michael Jagosz, Ole Beich, and Rob Gardner. This initial lineup recorded the EP “Collector’s Edition No. 1.” In 1985, he co-founded Guns N’ Roses, merging members from L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. He departed Guns N’ Roses after two months, citing creative differences. Following this, he reformed L.A. Guns later in 1985 with Paul Black, leading to a significant period of album releases and touring.
From 1988 to 1991, L.A. Guns released successful albums “L.A. Guns,” “Cocked & Loaded,” and “Hollywood Vampires,” which charted on the Billboard 200. The band underwent several lineup changes during the 1990s, recording albums such as “Vicious Circle” (1994) and “American Hardcore” (1996). In 1999, the classic lineup of L.A. Guns, including Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis, reunited for a tour and recorded a live album. Guns then explored other projects, co-founding Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx in 2002. This supergroup released “Here Come The Brides” in 2004, which also charted on the Billboard 200. He later formed Tracii Guns’ League of Gentlemen and Devil City Angels, maintaining an active presence in the rock music scene.
In 2016, Tracii Guns reunited with Phil Lewis under the L.A. Guns name, releasing new albums including “The Missing Peace” (2017), “The Devil You Know” (2019), “Checkered Past” (2021), and “Black Diamonds” (2023). This period marked a resurgence for the band, with new material gaining charting positions. In 2021, he collaborated with Michael Sweet of Stryper on the project Sunbomb, releasing the album “Evil and Divine.” Guns continues to perform and record, contributing to various musical projects and touring extensively.
