Verdine White is a founding member and bassist for Earth, Wind & Fire, celebrated for his influential basslines and extensive career in music. After rigorous training in bass guitar with Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Radi Velah and Chess Records session bassist Louis Satterfield, Verdine White co-founded the iconic R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire in early 1970, relocating to Los Angeles on June 6, 1970, to shape the band’s distinctive sound. As the group’s foundational bassist, White quickly became a pivotal figure, contributing to early hits such as ‘C’mon Children’ and ‘Bad Tune’ on their self-titled debut album. His songwriting prowess also led to co-writing ‘Mighty Mighty’ and ‘Kalimba Story’ in the mid-1970s, both of which became top 10 R&B/Soul hits and propelled their album Open Our Eyes to the number one spot on Billboard’s Soul Album Chart.
